Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the '-' button to delete it from the list. Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Update: continuing to try approaches to get rid of Avira such as: 1) tried using a much older version of the Windows 10 update software to see if it would overlook Avira remanants or whatever is causing it to identify Avira as incompatible software; no luck-still says Avira has to be manually removed; 2) tried the downloadable Windows 10 install/uninstall troubleshooting software; no luck. Uninstall/Remove Secure VPN from new Norton 360 Deluxe. In order to try and resolve another issue I was having with my Norton Security Premium installation I elected to take up the 'Free' upgrade offer to Norton 360 Deluxe which includes a cut down version of Norton Secure VPN. (Cut down in the sense that it does not include any configuration.
The solutions I have seen so far all recommend removing the offending third party applications. That presupposes being able to find which such application is involved or unchecking startup items until the specific culprit is found. Laborious, to put it mildly. What I have not seen suggested anywhere is uninstalling the Apple security update itself. That would be a lot easier and faster for the average user and then wait for Apple to post a new update to fix the earlier misbehaving update.
My question is can Apple's security updates be uninstalled? If so, how?

How do I Remove Comodo Internet Essentials?
Comodo Internet Security Essentials installs as a standalone program and must be removed separately. Uninstalling the application that CISE was bundled with will not remove nor deactivate the program.
Uninstall Secure Manager Mac App
To remove Comodo Internet Security Essentials:
- Open the Windows control panel then open 'Programs and Features' (or 'Add/Remove Programs' on older versions of Windows)
- Select 'Internet Security Essentials' in the list of programs
- Click 'Uninstall'
